Virginia is located at 39°5656N 90°1242W (39.949022, -90.211793) It is the county seat of Cass County. As of the 2020 census there were 1,514 people, 593 households, and 379 families residing in the city. The city's age distribution consisted of 24.9% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 22.2% from 25 to 44, and 18.1% who were 65 years of age or older. Virginia has one school: a K-12 facility run by Virginia Community Unit School District 64. The Virginia Bar-B-Que is an annual barbecue held during the first weekend of June. It features live music, carnival rides, flea market, parades and barbecued food. Virginia is located in Cass County, Illinois, in the U.S. state of Illinois. It is also the home of the Panther Creek State Fish Conservation Area, a conservation area for trout and other fish in the Illinois River system. The river is also the source of the Little Rappahannock River which flows through the southern portion of the state and into the Little Potomah River, the northern part of which is the Little James River, and the Little Ohio River, both of which flow through the Virginia Range. The Virginia Range was named for the Virginians, who lived in the area from 17th to 19th century. It is the only state in the United States to have been named after a person, not a race. The name Virginia means "Virginia" or "the state of Virginia" in the English language. It also means "the place where the Virginia River meets the Virginian River".
