Berryville (BURR--vul) is a city in Carroll County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 5,682 at the 2020 census. Along with Eureka Springs, it is one of the two county seats of Carroll County. U.S. Route 62 passes through the center of the city, leading east 30 miles (48 km) to Harrison and west 46 miles (74km) to Rogers. Berryville is the home of handgun manufacturing companies of Nighthawk Custom and Wilson Custom, as well as the International Defensive Pistol Association, a body that sanctions real-world self-defense scenarios. The city was founded by local settler Blackburn Henderson Berry in 1850; his nephew James Henderson Berry would become the fourteenth governor of Arkansas in 1883. The town was incorporated in 1876 and has a population of 5,356 as of the census of 2010. History

Berryville was founded by local settler Blackburn Henderson Berry in 1850. His nephew James Henderson Berry would become the fourteenth governor of Arkansas in 1883. The city was incorporated in 1876. Berryville is located in the Ozarks, near the Arkansas-Oklahoma border. The town has a population of about 2,000. It is located on the Arkansas River, which flows through the town of Berryville and into the Little Piney River. It was founded in 1850 by Blackburn HendersonBerry, who would later become governor of the state of Arkansas, and his nephew, James HendersonBerry. In 1876, Berryville was incorporated as a city by the citizens ofBerryville and the surrounding towns. It became a suburb of Little Pineville in 1881. It has since been known as Berryville or Berryville, Arkansas. It also has been known by other names, such as Berrytown, Arkansas and Berryville City, Arkansas, as well as the Berryville Town of the same name, including the Berrytowns of Arkansas and the Berry Township of Arkansas. The Berryville name was adopted by the town's first residents in 1851. The current name of the town is Berryville. It means "the town of the berries" or "the fruit of the berry" in English and "Berryville" in Spanish. In English, the word "berry" means "bark" and "village" in the Spanish language. In Spanish, it means "town" or "village".

Geography

Berryville is located in the Ouachita National Forest, which stretches for more than 1,000 miles (1,600 km) into the Ozarks. The town has a population of 2,000 (2,100 people) and is located near the Arkansas/Missouri state line. It is the only town in the state to have a post office, which was established in 1881. It was the first post office in Berryville in 1883. The current post office was opened in 1891. It has a current population of 1,100 (1.0% of the town's population). The city has a history dating back to the early 1800s. The last post office closed in the 1950s and was replaced by a new post office that opened in the 1960s.Berryville was the site of the Battle of the Bulge.

The middle school and high school diplomas are also in the high school grade range. The Berryville school district offers a variety of special education programs for students in need of extra help with reading, vocabulary and other skills. It is the only school district in the area to offer a high school diploma program for high schoolers.
