Ponderay is located at 48°1811N 116°3218W (48.303080, -116.538292), at an elevation of 2,126 feet (648 m) above sea level. The city motto is "Little City with the Big Future". Its name is an English phonetic spelling of the French words Pend Oreille, the name of the lake the city sits upon. Ponderay was built on the site of the company town of the Panhandle Smelting and Refining Company. The population was 1,137 at the 2010 census, up from 638 in 2000. The U.S. Census Bureau says the city has a total area of 3.02 square miles (7.82 km²), of which, 2.90 square miles of it is land and 0.12 square mile (0.31 km²) is water. It was incorporated as a village on May 27, 1947, and as a city on November 26, 1968. It is located in Bonner County, Idaho, near the junction of the Snake River and Snake River Rivers, and the Idaho-Wyoming border. It has an estimated population of 1,136, with 622 people living in 521 households. The average household size is 2.38, with the average family size being 2.88. History

Ponderay was built on the site of the company town of the Panhandle Smelting and Refining Company. It was incorporated as the Village of Ponderay on May 27, 1947, and became the City of Ponderay on November 26, 1968. The city's original plat was filed in Kootenai County on May 5, 1904. It is located on the banks of the Little Snake River, which runs through the center of the city. The town is located in the eastern part of the Snake River Valley. It has a population of 2,000. The City's population was 3,000 in 1968, and 3,500 in 2010. The village's population grew to 4,000, and the city's population to 5,200 in 2010, and 6,000 by 2012. The population of the City was 5,000 when it was incorporated, and 5,500 when it became a city in 1968. It also has a landfill, which was built in the early 1900s. The current population is 6,500. The Village's original plats were filed in May 1904, and it became the Village in May 1947. It became a City in November 1968, after the City's incorporation. It's located on a river, which flows through the middle of the town, and has a lake, which is the town's main source of water. The city is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is located on the shores of the San Franciso River, which flows into the San Diego River. It is the only city in the state of California that is not located on a major river or river system. The town's population was 1,081 in the 2010 census. It has a latitude of 48.3°N and a longitude of 116.4°W. It was founded in 1881. The area was once known as the town of Pondery, and was named after the town's first postmaster, who died there in 1883. The current mayor of the city is David Ponder, who was elected to his first term in office in 1998. He was re-elected to a second term in 2008. He has served as mayor since 2008, and has served since 2010. He is a member of the California House of Representatives and the California State Senate. He also served as the mayor from 1998 to 2010.
