It was incorporated on February 14, 1908. The city has been home to the Hollywood Park Racetrack from 1938 to 2013. Fosters Freeze, the first soft serve ice cream chain in California, was founded by George Foster in 1946. Inglewood was named an All-America City by the National Civic League in 1989 and yet again in 2009 for its visible progress. In the 1920s, the Ku Klux Klan had a chapter in Ingle Wood. In 1941, Communist union officials opposed American aid to Britain. The United Auto Workers (UAW) won the election over to Britain over the North American Aviation Association Association. The UAW was unable to get the nation's fighter planes to return when President Franklin Roosevelt intervened. In 1944, the UAW closed a plant that produced the wildcat fighter planes that produced Lend-Lease materiel. The plant closed on the fourth day of a wildcat strike that produced 4,000 fighter planes. In 1945, the factory closed when President Roosevelt intervened when the national leadership of the CIO suddenly suddenly approved the approval of the national CIO. In 1950, the United Automobile Workers (UAW) demanded a starting pay of 75 cents an hour, plus a 10-cent-cent raise for current employees. In 1951, UAW negotiators demanded a pay of 11,000 dollars, plus 10,000 cents-a-day for new employees.

History

Inglewood was named an All-America City by the National Civic League in 1989. The city has been home to the Hollywood Park Racetrack from 1938 to 2013. Fosters Freeze, the first soft serve ice cream chain in California, was founded by George Foster in 1946. The Ku Klux Klan had a presence in Inglewood in the 1920s, with the most notable event being the 1922 raid. In 1941, Communist local union officials opposed American aid to Britain's war against Germany. The United Auto Workers (UAW) won the election over the International Association of Machinists and represented all the workers at the North American Aviation plant. The UAW had made a no-strike pledge, but suddenly a wildcat strike that produced 4 fighter planes closed the plant's 4,000-strong plant. When Germany invaded the USSR in late June 1941, the Communist activists suddenly became the strongest supporters of war production; they crushed wildcat strikes. In the 1940s, the UAW was unable to get the workers to reopen the plant, and President Franklin Roosevelt sent in the national guard to reopen it. The plant was closed for good in December of that year, and the plant closed again in 1950. The factory is still in operation today, but it has been closed for more than a decade because of safety concerns. It is located in what is now the Edward Vincent Jr. Park (known for most of its history as Centinela Park) The city was founded in 1781 by Spanish settlers, one of whom was a 23-year-old muleteer from Los Alamos.

This is a better indicator than the average, because the median is not changed as much by a few unusually high or low values. The property tax rate of $7.73 shown here is the rate per $1,000 of home value. If for simplification for example the tax rate is $14.00 and the home value is $250,000, the property tax would be $14.00 x ($250,000/1000), or $3500. This is the 'effective' tax rate.
